Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has advised people to document acts of kindness, saying helping others can sometimes produce unexpected consequences.
Davido made the remark while reflecting on the unpredictability of life, noting that kindness could lead to either positive or negative outcomes.
“In life, you never know where your kindness can take you. It can either take you up or down,” he said.
The singer, however, added a humorous twist to his message, saying, “That is why when you help people, always keep receipts. Don’t play with me.”
The comment has sparked reactions online, with several users agreeing that keeping records of assistance rendered could help prevent future disputes.
Reacting to the remark, @Edvinng said, “Keeping receipts is very important because people sabi deny the help you rendered.”
@Buluspaul9, however, jokingly asked, “Receipt for good or evil?” and described it as having “many carryovers of keeping receipts.”
Another user, @nyeneimeluke59, said Davido’s comment, although humorous, carried a serious message about accountability.
“Davido may be joking, but there’s a serious lesson underneath it: kindness is valuable, but keeping records protects you when memories, intentions, or relationships change. Help people with a good heart; just don’t be careless with accountability,” the user wrote.
Similarly, @iam-supremoh said, “It’s important because people forget easily.”
@Timmydave0019 added, “Davido no dey joke. If you help person and no keep receipt, tomorrow dem go act like you never do anything. Always document your kindness.”
Davido’s comment has consequently sparked a wider conversation about balancing kindness with accountability, as social media users debated whether documenting assistance can protect people from future disagreements.
