A domestic dispute over shared compound space in Lugbe, Abuja, has landed a woman in prison after she allegedly poured a pot of boiling water on her neighbour.
The suspect, identified as Beauty Monday, was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre following her arraignment in court, pending further proceedings scheduled for September 16, 2026.
According to a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on September 4, 2026, following a heated argument between the suspect and the victim, Gift Amos.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the altercation began when Amos moved Monday’s pot of boiling water off a stove to a portion of the shared yard designated for her use.
Enraged by the action, Monday reportedly picked up the boiling water and poured it directly onto Amos’s back, causing severe burns and grievous bodily harm.
The victim reported the matter to the Lugbe Police Division on September 6, 2026, and is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries at an undisclosed medical facility.
Reacting to the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, condemned the violent outburst and urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to practice restraint and peaceful coexistence.
”Members of the public must desist from taking the law into their own hands or resorting to violence when resolving personal disputes,” CP Sanusi stated, emphasizing the need for lawful conflict resolution.
The FCT Police Command further urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities or emergencies using their official response lines.
