Public affairs commentator, Reno Omokri, has urged contestants in the 2027 presidential election to focus on issues rather than age-shaming their opponents, releasing a 1993 photograph of Bola Tinubu, then a senator, to make his point.
Omokri made the call in a post on X on Saturday, 12 September 12, 2026, at 2:39pm, sharing the black-and-white photograph with a caption describing it as an image of “then-Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu from 1993, thirty-three years ago.”
“Many more photos like this, along with their metadata, exist. I therefore urge the major contestants to make the 2027 elections about issues, not about tabloid sensationalism or age-shaming their opponents. Nigeria deserves better candidates, not bitter ones,” Omokri wrote.
The post had drawn 7,700 views, 26 likes, 19 reposts and nine comments as of the time of filing this report.
In reaction, a user identified as Daniel Chinedu alleged that forgery and connections, rather than education, determined success in Nigeria, questioning which school Tinubu attended before becoming president.
Another user, Deakpe Yima, asked whether Nigeria operated an age cap for presidential contestants.
while a verified user, Nura Sabo Anku, countered that the country needed a vibrant and committed leader capable of delivering for Nigeria.
