Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to inaugurate and lead campaign teams in the FCT and Rivers State for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Wike made the announcement on Friday, 25th September, 2026 in Abuja after inspecting the ongoing Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project, saying supporters of the President from different political platforms had already put their campaign machinery in place.
He said the All Progressives Congress was also preparing for what he described as an aggressive campaign, while supporters outside the party were mobilising separately in support of Tinubu.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers, which I will lead,” Wike said.
“All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm,” he added.
The minister said his campaign effort would be driven largely by the infrastructure projects being delivered across the FCT, arguing that the projects would demonstrate the administration’s performance to residents ahead of the election.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against the president as far as this election is concerned. This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said.
Wike also dismissed anticipated allegations of electoral malpractice, saying the infrastructure projects, rather than manipulation of votes, would form the basis of his campaign in the territory.
“It is obvious. Nobody will be able to claim rigging in FCT. The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are delivering, making the people happy,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the infrastructure projects would translate into electoral support for Tinubu across the FCT, including for Senator Philip Aduda and the two House of Representatives seats.
Turning to the Kuje-Gwagwalada road project, Wike commended the contractor and site engineers for the progress recorded and assured stakeholders that adequate funding would be provided to facilitate completion by December.
“This is my first time getting to this side of the road, and I can see how highly populated this area is,” he said.
The minister stressed that functional infrastructure remained central to governance and public satisfaction, saying the response of residents to completed projects reflected the importance of delivering projects that directly affect their daily lives.
“You can imagine the enthusiasm and happiness on the faces of the people. That is why we say the essence of governance is to make people happy. When the people are happy, those in authority are happy,” Wike said.
He also expressed appreciation to Tinubu for his continued support for capital projects in the FCT.
Wike has previously said he would mobilise support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election while maintaining that his support for the President does not prevent the Peoples Democratic Party from fielding candidates in other elections.
