President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, 6 October, 2026 expressed sadness over the death of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, SCSN, Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed.
Baba-Ahmed, a respected administrator and Islamic leader, died in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 October, 2026 after years of service to Islam and the nation.
Tinubu, through a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, described the deceased as an impactful leader who steered the affairs of the SCSN with wisdom, foresight and commitment to unity, justice and peaceful coexistence.
The President recalled his longstanding relationship with Baba-Ahmed, particularly during the build-up to the 2011 election and subsequent years, noting his counsel and support during the 2023 presidential campaign.
While acknowledging Baba-Ahmed’s role in sustaining the Council’s voice on national issues, fostering understanding and promoting moral renewal and social justice, the President condoled with the President and members of the SCSN, the Baba-Ahmed family, the government and people of Kaduna State, as well as the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, over the loss.
Tinubu prayed that Allah forgives the deceased’s shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus and gives his family and the Muslim Ummah the strength to bear the loss.
