The National Publicity Secretary of  Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC)  Osa Director on  Monday, 19 October, 2026 announced a new date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council(NCC), reports thegazellenews.com.

Prior to this latest development, the party had earlier slated the inauguration of the campaign council for Tuesday, 20th October, 2026.

But Director through a statement on Monday, disclosed that the event will now be held on Monday, 26 October, 2026.

“The shift is occasioned by the very tight schedule of our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, who has a very important engagement overseas.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this shift and urge everyone not to lose focus on the goal of ensuring victory for our presidential candidate and all NDC candidates in the forthcoming presidential and general elections. A New Nigeria is possible,” the statement said.

Rivers Assembly Reverses Sack of Three pro-Fubara Lawmakers After Three Years

Barely 24 hours after Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, led stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition, again, to pay a visit to Rivers State Governor Fubara on Sunday, 18 October, 2026 at his private residence in Port Harcourt, the State House of Assembly on Monday, 19 October, 2026 rescinded its earlier decision to declare vacant the seats of three lawmakers loyal to the Governor.

It was gathered that move follows recent peace and reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the political crisis in the state.

The affected lawmakers are: Victor Oko-Jumbo, Bonny; Adolphus Timothy Oruibienimigha, Opobo/Nkoro; and Sokari Goodboy Sokari, Ahoada West.

At plenary session, the House read a letter from the three lawmakers in which they said they never received the correspondence asking them to resume legislative sittings after the President’s intervention in the crisis.

The lawmakers tendered apology to the House, which was accepted.

The House, thereafter, directed them to resume their legislative duties.

However, the three lawmakers will not return to the Assembly after this tenure as they were all screened out of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election process.

Thegazellenews.com recalled that the three lawmakers were suspended on October 30, 2023, the day the Assembly made its first attempt to impeach Governor Fubara.

They have been absent from sittings for almost three years, and their return to the House comes as stakeholders question the nature of the recent peace process led by Wike.

Tinubu Releases N4bn for Payment of 600 ex-Nigeria Airways Workers

This is certainly good news for 600 former Nigerian Airways workers President Bola Tinubu has released N4 billion as the second tranche of severance benefits for them, reports thegaxellenews.com.

This is contained in a statement by Maryann Duke, Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Press Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, made this disclosure through a statement on Monday, 19 October, 2026.

According to the statement, the N4 billion payment follows the N18 billion earlier released in September 2026 to settle the entitlements of 2,700 former workers across the first nine batches.

The statement also added that the disbursement is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to settle outstanding severance obligations owed to former employees of the defunct national carrier.

Duke also stated in the statement that the total gross severance benefits for the 600 beneficiaries amount to N4,251,043,000.19, with deductions of N212,552,150.01, adding that the net amount released for payment stands at N4,038,490,850.18.

She explained in the statement that the latest disbursement was part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to settle outstanding severance obligations owed to former employees of the defunct national carrier.

Duke also  stated that payments were being processed in batches based on the verification of eligible beneficiaries and their records to ensure that approved entitlements reached the rightful recipients.

“The Federal Government recognises the prolonged wait experienced by former employees and their families and remains committed to resolving legitimate outstanding claims through an orderly and transparent process, while safeguarding public funds through appropriate verification,” the statement said.
