The Lagos State House of Assembly Muslim Community has congratulated Muslim faithful over the new year Islamic year, 1442 A.H.
According to the Committee of Imams, Friday, 21 August, 2020 marks the first day of the month of Muharram as declared by the Sultan of Sokoto and the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar ( CFR) following a recommendation by the National Moon Sighting Committee of the NSCIA.
The Committee of Imams said Hijrah liberated the followers of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) when they migrated to Madeenah where they were able to practice Islam freely.
The Assembly Muslim Community urged Muslim faithful to follow the tenets of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) who taught a lot of lessons which include worship of Allah, brotherhood of humanity, friendliness, good neighbourliness as well as good welfare for the people, among others.
The Imams however called on Muslims to eschew violence, embrace peace and accept Almighty Allah as the only saviour saying that the commencement of the new year Hijrah should be used as a reflection for good deeds, fear of Allah and the propagation of Islam to the World.
They further implored Muslim brothers and sisters to intensify efforts for God’s intervention to eradicate the Corona virus which has claimed lots of lives in our country.
Muslims should also follow instructions by the State Government to reduce the spread of the Corona Virus pandemic by observing social distancing, use of facemasks, washing of hands amongst others.
“Ya Rabbi, on this beautiful Friday, count us among those you have forgiven, show us mercy by taking this pandemic away from this world, grant our dua and count us to witness many more Hijrah in good health,” the statement said
