Former Kaduna State Governor Balarabe Mus has died, his longtime associate Shehu Sani announced on Tuesday, 11 November, 2020.
Mr. Musa was the former governor of Kaduna State, becoming the first to be impeached in the early 80s.
He was elected Governor of the old Kaduna State on the platform of the then Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) but served with a Legislative arm dominated by members of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
It was no surprise then that he could not work amicably with the Legislative Arm. His lists of commissioners were constantly rejected by the NPN dominated members in the House.
He was eventually impeached in 1981 replaced by his Deputy, Isa Lawal Kaita.
He played multiple roles over the last four decades in Nigerian political and socio-economic activities, forming alliances across multiple sections of the country.
He was a major pro-democracy activist and had been on collision course with various military junta over his stand. On a number of occasions, he has also been detained by the military on account of his belief.
He was 84.
