By Femi Ogbonnikan Ogun State has become a volatile political theatre, characterised by sly innuendoes, raw attacks and unverified allegations of wrongdoing against the current administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun. It is a clime where partisan-friction often outweighs policy. Here, bad politics doesn’t just exist-it runs deep. This culture of perpetual friction does more than just clutter the headlines; it creates a fog that obscures genuine governance. When every policy is met with a reflex of cynicism and every achievement is dismissed as a calculated ploy, the casualty isn’t just the reputation of the administration—it is the progress of the state…

By Lanre Adewole In 2023, of the 8,794,726 million votes that sent Mr. Bola Tinubu to Aso Rock presidential villa, only 2,279,407 million of them, representing just a little above 25% of the total, came from his South West stock. So last week, I had lengthy conversations with two Yoruba political lieutenants of Mr. President. One has always had reservations about his politics but still supported him firmly to win in 2023. The other, until the shocking discovery during the discussion, was smitten by the City Boy political charm. He adored, idolised and even lionised what he considered as unmatched political…

Today, on International Women’s Day 2026, I join millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating the strength, courage, tenacity, and achievements of women and girls across Nigeria and around the world. This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” reminds us that empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future. When we give women access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, leadership platforms, justice and equity, we gain stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation. When women rise, Nigeria rises! Happy International Women’s Day! Sen. Oluremi…
By Mobolaji Sanusi “Accountability for police officers should be an expectation, not an aberration.”—-Alex Padilla Olatunji Rilwan Disu is now affirmatively the country’s mint Inspector General of Police. By that stroke also, Kayode Egbetokun now belongs to the league of former police IGs. This scenario brings to fruition, the saying that change is the only constant thing in life while power, though sweet, remains the most temporary of all human possessions. Disu’s unexpected ascension to the nation’s number one cop’s throne is inevitably providential. Egbetokun would never have imagined that his four-year tenure as IG would be short-lived by a…
By Tunde Rahman Last week has been hugely significant in Nigeria’s contemporary history. The plaudits arising from the announcement of Executive Order 9, aimed at curbing opacity in the operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and instilling transparency and accountability, had barely receded when President Bola Tinubu made two other important decisions in quick succession. The President appointed Olatunji Disu, then an Assistant Inspector General of Police, as the new Inspector General of Police. On Monday, March 2, 2026, the Police Council formally ratified Disu’s appointment in line with the constitution. And just one day after the Council ratified…
