Soldiers prevented an attempt on Faith Academy, a secondary school run by Bishop David Oyedpo’s Living Faith Church Worldwide, in the early hours of Monday, 5 July, 2021.
The institution is not distant from a boarding school in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area where numerous pupils were abducted.
In the early hours of Monday, attackers opened fire on both Bethel Secondary School and Faith Academy, according to the Daily Trust.
The attack on Faith Academy was halted while they were abducting pupils from Bethel School.
The shooters broke into the premises of Faith Academy through the back gate around 1 a.m., but were repulsed by soldiers with the help of the school security team, according to a security agent.
A parent whose son attends the school told our correspondent that the school administration had ordered all students to go home last week, with the exception of SS3 students who were studying for their final year examinations.
She stated that suitable arrangements have been made for the SS3 pupils to be relocated to Barnawa in the Kaduna South Local Government Area, where they will continue their studies.
She praised security personnel for acting quickly, adding her son and others who were in the hostel at the time of the incident were safe and had been removed from the school grounds.
When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said he couldn’t confirm it, but said security personnel were busy all night resisting bandit attacks.
