Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested one Umar Mohammed, 26,for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area of the state, thegazellenews.com reports.
The Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the arrest of Mohammed through a statement, said the incident occurred on Monday, 27 January, 2025, at about 9 pm and was reported to officers at Bangi Division.
According to Abiodun explained that this led to the arrest of Mohammed, an unmarried farmer from Farar-Doka village, following a direct complaint that he defiled the child on January 26 at about 8:30 pm.
The state police image-maker revealed that the six-year-old victim had been sent on an errand to a nearby shop but returned late and in tears. Enquiries revealed the disturbing truth.
Abiodun added that Mohammed accosted the child on her way back from the shop, took her to a nearby bush, and committed the crime.
The victim was taken to the General Hospital in Bangi for medical attention, while Mohammed was arrested and taken in for questioning.
“He confessed to the crime. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.” Abiodun added.
