The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdullah Mohammed Shawesh, has described Israel as deliberately showing disrespect for international law with its decision not to obey the ruling of the International Court of Justice on the ongoing war in Gaza, reports thegazellenews.com
The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to prevent any form of genocide in the ongoing war at Gaza. However, despite the ICJ ruling, Israel has continued its attack on Gaza which has resulted in the killing 174 people with 310 others suffering various degrees of injuries.
The Palestinian Ambassador lamented that Israel has not shown any desire to obey the ICJ ruling, noting that the Israeli leaders have continued to show contempt for the judgment and have vowed not to obey it.
The Ambassador spoke at a media roundtable organised by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in Lagos on Sunday, 28 January, 2024.
“Israel made it very clear that it will not abide by any judgment by ICJ. The Israeli Prime Minister declared that he will not abide. Israel and its officials have accused the ICJ of antisemitic bias. They are very clear in this regard,” the Ambassador said.
He noted that while Israel and its allies would want the world to believe that the war in Gaza was caused by the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, he noted that the continued disregard for international law as well as the occupation of Palestinian territory and killing of her people are parts of the issues to be addressed.
Shawesh, who claimed that there are historical evidences of Israel military killing Palestinians for fun, said more than 33, 000 people, mostly women and children, who had nothing to do with Hamas, have been killed by Israel since the October 7 attack.
He lamented that the United States of America has continued to supply ammunition to Israel and frustrated all efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
While calling for respect for the two-state solution, he called on the international communities to enforce immediate ceasefire in order to stop the killing of Palestinians on daily basis; deployment of humanitarian aids as people are dying of starvation; release of all hostages by all the parties; setting up of investigative commission to investigate events before, during and after October 7 as well as respect for international laws.
He said the war on Gaza by Israel has not achieved either of the objectives of the Israeli government, noting that the hostages’ releases were achieved through diplomatic means.
