The Kano Government has commended the Senior Special Assistant to the President On Sustainable Development Goals Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire over the support and various interventions of her Office to accelerate 2030 Agenda in the state.

Ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje gave the commendation during the recent unveiling of the interventions of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano. The Office also inaugurated a newly constructed and equipped 80-bed Mother and Child Centre in the premises to help reduce the incidence of maternal and infant mortality in the state.

Ganduje who was represented by then state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dan Azumi Gwarzo stated that Kano has been a beneficiary of numerous projects executed by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.

Also speaking, the Kano State Focal person on SDGs, Habib Yahaya Hotoro said Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire has worked with the state government to integrate the SDGs into the Kano State Development Plan III 2021-2025.

He noted that OSSAP-SDGs has also contributed into efforts to achieve the SDGs in Kano with various projects and programmes.

“Permit me at this juncture, to express our immense gratitude to Princes Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, for her tireless commitment and encouragement in propelling the achievement of the SDGs for Kano people through the provision of laudable projects and programs in the state,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Princess Orelope-Adefulire who was represented by by the Secretary of Programme,  Ahmad Kawu noted that aside supporting all 36 states and the FCT in implementing scientific SDG-based medium to long-term development planning, her Office has also prioritized interventions with multi-dimensional effects on alleviation of poverty like provision to basic healthcare services, vocational skills development, and education.

This, she said was with the aim of creating a ripple effect that will impact and improve the lives of many Nigerians in line with the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to put in place the framework for lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within a decade.

She said the comprehensive interventions of her Office in the Murtala Mohammed Hospital which involved complete overhaul and provision of new 80-Bed Mother and Child Centre in the same facility are examples of such interventions.

She listed other interventions carried out by her Office at the Hospital to include rehabilitation of the administrative block, X-Ray department, neuro-emergency & accident wards, theatre, vote control office and eye clinic as well as the maintenance unit, CSSD & store, growth monitoring unit, staff quarters, sickle cell & paediatric unit, and the immunization unit.

Also rehabilitated by the Office were the VVF ward, amenity ward, physiotherapy units, pharmacy, CYNAG emergency and maternity unit. The presidential aide said toilets and solar powered boreholes among others were provided at the hospital.

“The hospital is now ready to serve the people of Kano, and I am proud to say that it is now a state-of-the-art facility that we can all be proud of,” Princess Orelope-Adefulire said.

She added that the rehabilitation of this hospital will not only contribute to the achievement of SDG 3, but also has a positive spill-over impact on several SDGs.

“This hospital will serve as a catalyst for the overall development of the community, reducing infant and maternal mortality rates, improving access to healthcare services, and enhancing the overall health of the people,” the presidential adviser said while urging continuous investment in healthcare infrastructure with priority on the health and well-being of our citizens.

The Presidential Adviser urged the management and staff of the facility to ensure its properly management and maintainance so that the people of Kano and its environs will continue  to have access to quality healthcare services.

The presidential aide, however, informed that aside the critical interventions at the Murtala Mohammed hospital, her Office has carried out other critical interventions across the entire state. She listed the interventions to include various construction and rehabilitation works at the Infectious Disease Hospital Kano, Abdullahi Wase Hospital Kano, and Sabon Gari Urology Centre Kano which, she noted, have significantly improved the healthcare infrastructure in Kano State and have provided the people with access to quality healthcare services.

She listed the other interventions to include the construction and equipping of, the new 120-bed Mother and Child Centre Tofa town in Tofa LGA; 40-bed hospital at Dawakin-Kudu LGA; 40-bed Primary Healthcare Centre in Gaya Town in Gaya LGA; 40-bed Primary HealthCare Centre at Dawakin Tofa Rimigadu and 20-bed Primary Healthcare Centres constructed across 14 LGAs in Kano.

Princess Orelope-Adefulire added that her Office has also carried out a comprehensive rehabilitation and provision of solar-powered boreholes at Rumfa College and Government Girls’ College Dala; Sani Bello Science Secondary School, Dawakin Kudu and WTC Kofar Famfo, Kano, and GSS Gwale also in Kano.

“These interventions have had a significant impact on the lives of the people of Kano, particularly the vulnerable and marginalized groups. They have provided access to quality healthcare services, improved the education sector, and ensured access to safe and clean drinking water. I am confident that these interventions will certainly accelerate our progress towards the SDGs by the year 2030,” Princess Orelope Adefulire said.
