N27m Dud Cheque: EFCC Presents Another Witness against Defendant

The trial of William Bamidele Salami and his company, Fishgate Technologies Limited continued on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, before Justice  A. S. Adepoju of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Wuse, Abuja with the presentation of the second prosecution witness (PW2) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja Zonal Office.

The defendants are facing prosecution on one-count charge of issuance of dud cheque.

Having failed to repay a credit of N9 million the defendants obtained from Angelwalker Limited in 2015, which with the interest had amounted to N27million, the first defendant, Salami issued a cheque in the name of his company, Fishgate Technologies Limited in said sum and was dishonoured upon presentation in the bank on the ground of insufficient fund in the account.

Led in evidence today by prosecution counsel, Faruk Abdullah, the witness, Miss Hubabah Yusuf, a staff of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Gwarinpa branch,  Abuja, validated EFCC’s information on the Account Opening Package, Statement of Account and Letter of Identification on Fishgate Technologies Limited account, which was admitted in evidence as exhibit D4 and D5.

Revealing the financial transactions on the account, the witness disclosed that there was an inflow of N6million and N3million from Angelwalker Limited and one Friday Olajide respectively, into the account on April 28, 2015.

She was also able to identify the N27million dud cheque,  marked Exhibit A7, issued in the name of Fishgate Technologies Limited by Salami  in favor of Angelwalker Limited.

The judge adjourned the matter till September 28, 2020, for continuation of trial on the prayer of the defence counsel, Miracle Ogbebor.
