Team Nigeria’s star Athlete, Blessing Okagbare was disqualified this evening in the semi finals of Women’s 100m for beating the gun.
The Athletics event holding at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat saw a disappointed Okagbare missing out of podium finish for the umpteenth time.
However it was not all sad news for Nigeria as the first gold medal in the athletics event was recorded in the Triple Jump event with Grace Chinonyelum Anigbata winning the medal at the ongoing 12th Africa Games in Rabat.
She leapt a distance of 13.75m to come first in a pack of 14 jumpers, coming second was Morocco’s Jama Chnaik who leapt 13.69m to win the silver medal, while South Africa’s Zinzi Chabangu won the bronze.
Blessing Okagbare felt truly disappointed and did not talk to the media after the race.
Okagbare has not won an Africa games 100 metres medal in her career.
Also Team Nigeria Women Table Tennis team dominated the doubles event when the duo of Edem Effiong and Cecilia Akpan won gold medal in Table Tennis women’s doubles defeating compatriots, Funke Oshonaike and Fatimo Bello to the silver medal.
