The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has just released the final list of candidates for all political parties contesting in the coming general elections for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
The list covered candidates of all the political parties for Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections.
In the list released by INEC, Lagos State University produced three of the Senatorial Candidates and they are all flying the flags of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
First on the list is the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District and APC candidate for the same District in the coming election, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru.
Currently the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries, Senator Abiru graduated from LASU in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He was among the first sets of graduates produced by LASU.
Abiru was Commissioner for Finance in Lagos and later become Executive Director of First Bank and later Managing Director of Polaris Bank before his election into the Senate through a bye election after the death of Senator Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo on Monday, 15 June, 2020.
Next on the list is Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde who is the APC candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District.
Akintunde was among the second sets of graduates produced by LASU, graduating in 1989 with a degree in Physics. Akintunde has always shown his political tendencies early in life participating actively in campus politics.
He was the first President of the Association of Science Students (ASS) in LASU and after graduation he has added more degrees which had culminated in his obtaining his doctorate degree.
He was a Commissioner 1 in the Oyo State Civil Service Commission during the administration of the Late Lam Adeshina. During the administration of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Akintunde was first named the state Commissioner for Works and Transport before becoming the Executive Assistant to the Governor.
Last but certainly not the least and arguably the most accomplished politically is the only female among them, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule nee Idowu, a daughter of the soil from the host community to LASU, Ojo Kingdom.
Adebule graduated from LASU in 1993 with a degree in History and International Studies and she has gone ahead to obtain Masters and Doctorate degrees from the same institution.
Adebule has had a very illustrious political career starting from her appointment as a board member of the state Post- primary Teaching Service Commission.
After her stint in the commission she went for Master’s degree, taught for sometime before her appointment as the Secretary to the state Government under the administration of Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN.
Adebule was the immediate Deputy Governor of Lagos State serving under the administration of Akinwunmi Ambode.
Both Adebule and Abiru are members of the powerful and prestigious Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), highest political making body in the state.
Congratulations to the LASU trio and thegazellenews.com
