Dare devil men of the underworld on Thursday, 17th July, 2014 struck at one of the first generation bank located in Modakeke, headquarters of Ife East Area Office in Osun state, southwest Nigeria thus causing pandemonium in the community.
The fierce-looking armed robbers invaded the town around 2pm were said to have operated for several hours at a branch of Wema Bank Plc located in the town.
To this end, the community was thrown into serious confusion as residents ran helter and skelter for safety when the robbers were noticed while shooting sporadically in the town.
Impeccable sources told thegazellenews.com that the gunmen numbering six stormed the bank through the Modakeke High School compound beside the bank.
It was gathered however that police efforts foiled the operations of the armed robbers as police officers and men in the town responded swiftly to the distress call to them by residents of the area prevented the robbers from robbing the bank.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police Command, Mrs Folashade Odoro confirmed the robbery saying police officers chased the armed robbers to the outskirt of the town.
The police image maker said that the robbers left their luggage when police officers stormed the area, noting that drastic efforts were made to arrest the robbers.
As at the time of filling this report, police have not made any arrest in connection with the robbery incident, but the PPRO informed that men of the Nigeria Police Force were still searching for the robbers.
