ACF To N’Delta Militants: We Can’t Be Intimidated

In an apparent reaction to alleged threat by the Niger Delta militants that it will unleash mayhem on the rest of the country if President Goodluck Jonathan loses his re-election bid, the apex northern socio-cultural group Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) while expressing disappointment with such threat, said it cannot be intimidated.

It would be recalled that the ACF had endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari who is of northern extraction, just as the Niger Delta militants insist that Jonathan must be allowed to continue his second tenure.

But a communiqué issued at the end of the joint meeting of ACF Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Council (NEC) signed by the NEC chairman IGP Ibrahim A. Coomassie (rtd) said, “ACF notes with disappointment threats from some elements in the Niger Delta that they will unleash mayhem on the rest of the country if the March/April elections do not produce the result they want. ACF is not intimidated by this.”

ACF said that, “It is regrettable to observe that up till now security agencies have refused to arrest those threatening the nation and beating drums of war. We therefore urge them to immediately discharge their constitutional responsibility by arresting and prosecuting those who make such threats.”
