Amuwo Odofin Local Government is in positive news again. This time around for health related issue. The local government was a recipient of an award as the best local government at the just concluded Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week grand finale that was held at Alausa, Ikeja recently.
After a rigorous and painstaking exercise, Miss Chinanza Okafor of Amuwo Odofin Local Government was adjudged the Best Child at the grand finale, beating others to second and third respectively.
The Mother of the Child, Mrs. Okafor while recounting her experience to journalists at the Council Manager’s office, was full of praises to the Council Manager, Mr. Segun Ajayi, for sustaining the health policy of the local government. “This feat is too good to be true. I acknowledged the assistance of the Council Manager and his team for maintaining a sound health policy.”
The Council Manager commended the parents of the child and the council’s Health Department for placing the local government on a global stage once again.
According to him, “we will continue to serve the people with utmost dexterity.”
It is instructive to state that the MNCH week seeks to improve the health seeking behaviour of the whole family especially mothers and care givers of children under the age of five years. The services offered during the week included routine immunization, vitamin A supplementation, growth monitoring and promotion; screening for malnutrition and appropriate counseling and referral; and distribution of de-worming medicine and information, education and communication materials.
