An Ile-Ife, Osun State Customary Court has dissolved the six-year-old marriage between Mrs Folashade Adedeji and her husband, Kehinde, for lack of care.
Delivering judgment, President of the court, Mr Ganiyu Awoyera, said that all efforts to resolve the crisis proved abortive and, therefore, dissolved the marriage.
Awoyera ordered that the two children should be in custody of their mother, while the husband should be paying N2,000 monthly as food allowance for the children.
He also directed that Kehinde would be responsible for the payment of the children’s school fees, books and hospital bills, among other responsibilities.
Folashade filed for divorce on September 22, accusing her husband of lack of care, constant battering, drunkenness, violent behaviour and assault.
She told the court that her husband had been retarding her progress since they got married.
“We got married in 2008 and we are blessed with two children, aged between seven years and three years and all my efforts to progress in life were not successful.
“Immediately after we gave birth to the two children, I discovered that I always fell sick after we had sex; I also observed that my husband was using charms.
“Please separate us, our entire church members, including the pastor and my relations, have intervened without success,’’ Folashade told the court.
In his defence, Kehinde said that he had tried his best to satisfy his wife, but she was not contented.
Kehinde said that people had also tried to settle the misunderstanding, including their pastor, but his wife still proved stubborn, alleging that she had been dating another man.
“Please separate us and let her go her way for the safety of my life,” Kehinde told the court.
