APC Condemns Unconstitutional Arrest, Detention Of TVC Journalists By PDP In Osun

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the arrest, detention and brutal attack on the crew of Television Continental (TVC) in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday, 7th August, 2014.

According to a statement by the state APC’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, the duo of Ayodeji Moradeyo, reporter; and Binafia Miebi, cameraman; were seriously attacked by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalists at the secretariat of PDP in Osogbo because they were at the PDP office on fact-finding mission as journalists.

The statement stated further that, “APC says that the attack is in the character of the Peoples Democratic Party, a party known for violence and total disregard for the rights of human beings.

“The TV Continental crew which is officially accredited for the coverage of the August 9 gubernatorial poll has been arrested for carrying out their constitutionally guaranteed role. The role of the media, as the Fourth Estate of the Realm is copiously entrenched in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The APC as a law abiding political organisation condemns in entirety the jackboot democracy and the closure of the democratic space against Nigerians.

“This is a replay of the Ekiti gubernatorial election where journalists and APC party loyalists were hounded and brutalised without aggression against all known laws of the land. The arrest and deportation of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, Press Crew Members on June 21 during Ekiti militarised and manipulated governorship election speaks volume of the erosion and aggression against the Nigerian Constitution”.
