The All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the continuous exercise of its membership registration in Ekiti State has yielded a population of 315,985 from the initial 226,527 on February 12, 2014 when the party registration was officially concluded.

The newly released figure revealed an additional registration of 89,458 members, a situation traceable to the quality of awareness and mobilisation given the exercise by the APC on the one hand and the fact that other parties in the state are yet to find their bearings on the other hand.

A release by the party’s Director of Publicity and Media in Ekiti State, Segun Dipe, said the latest figure is a manifestation of the total dominance of APC in Ekiti State, which was as a result of the good work of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration.

“We keep saying it that APC is the most attractive party in Ekiti State and Nigeria today. We are the party of the grassroots and the only organised party in Ekiti State as of now. Our people are not gamblers, they are not going to leave certainty for uncertainty,” the statement said.

The state interim chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe also expressed satisfaction over the massive registration of membership, describing it as a proof of acceptance of APC and the desire to retain the incumbent Governor for a second term in office.

According to Chief Awe, “no one can deceive the good people of Ekiti or lure them with any amount of money and any other largesse any more. What they want is stability and enduring legacy. Our people are no more confused, they know where they want to be and how to get there. Let other states begin to emulate our state by joining APC enmasse”.

On the strategy employed to attract such a large population into a relatively new party, Chief Awe said there was no hidden secret “other than proper mobilisation and giving our people a sense of belonging. APC is a merger of three functional parties rolled into one.

”Moreover, Dr. Fayemi has made the work very simple by providing a well-focused leadership. He fulfilled his promises to the letter by not only empowering the youths but also the aged. If you do what someone had not done before, you will also get an unprecedented result. We are only reaping the fruit of our good work in the state”.

Awe also noted that with other rival parties yet to find their feet in the state, it was easy for the people with great desire for peace and stability to pit their tent with a stable party and expresses hope that it will translate to a smooth ride in the June 21 governorship election, though the party will leave nothing to chances.

A break down of the newly released figures showed that membership of APC in Ado Local Government has risen to 33,145, followed by Oye with 23,140 members, Ekiti South West with 22,133 and Ikere with 21,688 members.

Membership of Ikole Local Government rose to 21,010; Irepodun/Ifelodun, 20,564;  Ijero, 20,500; Ekiti West, 20,171; Ido/Osi,(19,115; Gbonyin, 18,775; and Moba, 17,240.

Others include Ekiti East, 20,277; Ise/Orun, 19,675; Efon, 13,914; Emure, 13,606; and Ilejemeje (11,032).
