The leaders of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party expressed sharp disagreements over members of which political party were responsible for the series of attacks on the opponents in the state.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 11, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, had invited the leaders of the various political parties to a peace parley where they signed a peace accord to ensure violence-free elections.
The AIG appealed to politicians and other residents in the state to assist the police and other security agencies to ensure a violence-free poll in the state.
The House Leader at the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, had accused a PDP leader of sponsoring thugs to attack the APC members and detaining them at his residence in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
But the Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Bola Ajao, said it was wrong for the APC leader to shift the blame on the opposition party when members of the ruling party were the ones unleashing attacks on known PDP members.
Ajao said that the convoy of a candidate of the PDP seeking to represent Boripe/ Ifelodun/Odo Otin at the House of Representatives, Mr. Kayode Oduoye, was attacked in Ikirun.
The Chairman Campaign Committee of the APC in Ijesha South Federal Constituency, Mr. Idowu Korede, had also addressed a press conference where he accused the PDP senatorial candidate in Ife/Ijesha District, Mr. Francis Fadahunsi, of using the police and operatives of the Department of State Service to arrest the APC members on trump up charges.
He also accused Fadahunsi of using his residence as a detention and torture camp where members of the ruling party abducted were usually tortured before being handed over to the police.
Korede said that supporters of the PDP intensified their attacks on known APC members after the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal last Friday.
Korede said, “On 6th February, 2015, shortly after the delivery of the landmark judgment of Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Adeyemi Jelili, a transporter at Ifewara Park of Ilesha branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, a reliable and loyal member of our great party, had a harmless and friendly joke, which turned out to be his albatross as he was arrested by the PDP thugs, led by Sina Eleran. He was beaten and axed mercilessly before he was taken to the torture centre, the home of Francis Fadahunsi at Ilase where they invited men of the Anti-robbery Squad to arrest and take him to Osogbo.
“They said Adeyemi Jelili was not released on bail until February 10, 2015.
“On February 7, Alfa Olaide Alarape and one other member of our party from Ilesha West were abducted and whisked away to Ilase, the private home of Fadahunsi, where they unleashed terror on them.
“They were severely beaten and they sustained injuries in the process. When they discovered that the injuries sustained might result in death, they quickly called the SARS Office in Osogbo to come and pick them to their station.”
The Director of Department of State Service in the state, Mr. Andrew Iorkya, said that politicians making the allegation should document it and take it to the appropriate authorities.
He advised them to always find a means of identifying anybody who claimed to be an operative of the DSS to enable the command to ascertain if such a person was truly a security personnel or an impersonator.
The AIG Okoye said he was not aware of the allegation when our correspondent confronted him with the one against the police.
