Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, 11th August, 2014, engaged in a bloody clash in Ile-Ife, leaving scores with various injuries.

It was learnt that supporters of PDP allegedly attacked the APC supporters when the latter were celebrating the victory of their candidate, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, in Saturday governorship election in the state.

But the Police Public Relation Officer PPRO Osun state command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, denied any clash saying “people were only jubilating, not only in Ile-Ife, but all parts of the state.”

The APC in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Research, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, alleged that the PDP supporters went on rampage against supporters of APC who were celebrating Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s victory in last Saturday’s governorship election.

He said, “apart from physical injuries inflicted on our supporters, the PDP thugs extended their violence to Gbodo where they attacked and damaged properties belonging to the father of the Executive Secretary of  Ife South Local Government, Tajuden Lawal.

“Not done with their violence, they went ahead to vandalize shops in Itakogun. Fortunately, we are told the police have intervened and the situation is being normalized.”

The APC however advised all its supporters in Ile Ife and other parts of the state to be calm.
