All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Federal Government should desist from sending soldiers to Osun State to supervise the conduct or pretend to provide security for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the election.
The party in a statement in Osogbo by the state APC’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, on Thursday, 31st July, 2014, argued that the military is not saddled with internal security duties.
The party also noted that deploying soldiers for election duty is against the constitution of the country.
According to the party, the Nigeria Police is best suited for such duties constitutionally.
The party emphasized that a siege of the military for an election is a subversion of democracy which must not be encouraged.
The APC insisted that the Federal Government must drop the idea because it is inimical to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.
