Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Sunday, 15th March, 2015 expressed shock at the news of the death of a prominent broadcaster in the state, Mr. Olumide Ajayi, describing the development as sad and unsettling.
Aregbesola said Ajayi’s life was cut short in his prime when his stars were shining and was emerging as an icon on the information and entertainment industry.
In a condolence message signed by the Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon, the Governor said the development became more unsettling given the account that he was in apparent perfect condition of health and traveled to anchor an event only to succumb to death so suddenly.
“This death is unsettling. It leaves us utterly speechless,” the statement said.
While describing Ajayi as a professional who carried out his assignment with doggedness, the statement noted that his works as a journalist stood him out while he also etched himself in the consciousness of the people of the state as event anchorman of note.
“On behalf of the government and people of Osun, I commiserate with the entire Nigeria Union of Journalists where he was a member; the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation where he worked, the News Agency of Nigeria his current employers and his immediate and extended family members.
“His death only reminds us of one thing: That death is a necessary end and that while we are alive, we must strive to play our parts in manners that promote the good humanity,” the statement concluded.
