The Labour Party governorship candidate in the June 21 election in Ekiti State, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele, has said the victory of candidate of All Progressive Congress (APc) in the August 9 governorship election in Osun State, Mr Rauf Aregbesola was well deserved.
Speaking through his media aide, Ahmed Salami, the LP candidate on Sunday, 10th August, 2014 described Aregbesola as a thorough-bred and simple politician who understands the feelings of his people.
Bamidele, who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Budget and Research noted that Aregbesola’s victory signified further entrenchment of democracy in the country and that the victory of the APC candidate did not come as a surprise.
He maintained that the return of Governor Aregbesola for a second term confirmed that his first term had actually met the yearnings of the people beyond rhetoric and media hype.
The LP chieftain added that Aregbesola’s victory had taught a great lesson that politicians with track record of achievements would automatically win the hearts of their people, not minding the complexity and dynamism of their environment.
According to him, Osun election also drives home the point that a political party desirous of winning an election must present a candidate who is acceptable to both members of his party as well as the general public.
The LP chieftain commended the electorate for trooping out en masse to cast their votes for their preferred candidate.
He also commended the Federal Government and its agencies, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement agencies, for allowing the popular will of the people of Osun state to prevail in overriding public interest and in the long term interest of the democracy.
