It has been revealed Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of Pension Reform Task Team, deposited N3billion into 12 different UBA accounts while in service.
Mairo Muhammed Bashir, a business manager with the UBA said the accounts, opened in 2011, were in naira and dollar denominations.
Aside, Maina also opened accounts for his companies, namely Faizal Farm (i), Faizal Farm (ii) and Common Input Investment Property Ltd — which were also in naira and dollar denominations.
The witness further said the funds were ransferred to the treasury single account (TSA) in 2012.
The prosecution tendered the accounts briefs as exhibited, while opposing the defendant’s lawyer’s request for an adjournment.
Joe-kyari Gadzama, Maina’s counsel, had said he was briefed only the previous day, thereby unready for trial.
However, trial judge Okon Abang ruled out Gadzama’s request before adjourning the matter till November 4, 5, 6 and 7 for continuation of trial.
Maina is standing trial on 12 counts bordering money laundering. He was first arraigned on October 25, and he pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
