The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has sought for the unconditional release of Dr. Femi Omisore of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning who was abducted by some gunmen recently.

Omisore was captured in Ado Ekiti on Friday evening, 8th May, 2015 on his way to Oye Ekiti to attend a ceremony.

It was reported that the kidnappers are demanding for N70 million ransom before the lecturer can be released.

Speaking with our correspondent on telephone on Monday, 11th May, 2015 in Osogbo, the chairman of the OAU branch of ASUU, Dr. Caleb Aborisade, said that members of the union arrived at this after an emergency congress held on Monday on the issue of the kidnapped lecturer.

According to the ASUU boss, the union did not have ransom to pay to the gunmen who abducted one of its members.

The union however sympathized with the family of Omisore’s driver who was shot dead by the kidnappers.

He said, “ASUU held an emergency congress on Monday on the issue of Dr. Omisore who was kidnapped. We condemn the killing of the driver and the abduction of Dr. Femi Omisore.

“We sympathized with the family of the driver and we are demanding the unconditional release of Dr. Omisore.”

The management, according to its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju also demanded that Omisore should be released without ransom.

Olanrewaju in an interview with our correspondent made this known while joining the ASUU to call on the abductors to release the lecturer unconditionally.
