Chelsea bid €65 million (around £46m) for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke this summer, though the huge offer was snubbed by the Spanish club, reports Marca.
The former La Liga champions will understandably be eager to keep hold of the influential midfielder, who created 64 chances in the league last season, including 10 assists. It, therefore, should come as no surprise that Atleti have said no to the deal.
This isn’t the first time talk that Jose Mourinho’s side wish to sign the 23-year-old has emerged, but the player reiterated in May that he intends to still be at the Vincente Calderon next season.
ESPN FC also claim that Bayern Munich were interested in the star but it is unlikely Diego Simeone will let the player go as he was one of the club’s most important players in their title-winning side of two years ago and could be the lynchpin in the manager’s new-look side.
Simeone has already recruited major names such as Jackson Martinez, Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, Luciano Vietto, Stefan Savic and Filipe Luis, who has returned after just one season at Chelsea.
However, he has lost the likes of Arda Turan, Mario Mandzukic, Miranda, Mario Suarez and Toby Alderweireld meaning that it could be another season of transition for the Rojiblancos.
