The Chairman of Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, Engineer Fatai Oyesanya has been impeached by the councillors of the council.
The impeachment took place on Tuesday, 19th August, 2014, at the council secretariat, Ikosi road, Ketu.
All the seven elected councillors in the council led by their Leader, Owolabi Taiwo, participated in the impeachment exercise.
Other councillors at the sitting are: Olusola Akerele, Deputy Leader; Stephen Akinyemi, Majority Leader; Olujoke Adekoya, Chief Whip; Bamidele Ajayi; Victor Ajayi-Bembe and Odukunle Kuti.
The motion for the impeachment of Oyesanya was moved by the Majority Leader, Stephen Akinyemi with the other councillors unanimously supporting it. By 11.15am, the pronouncement for the impeachment of the council boss was made by the council Leader, Owolabi Taiwo.
The chairman was removed on the following alleged impeachable offences: embezzlement, misappropriation of tax payers’ money, disruption of public peace, mal-administration and high-handedness.
On Wednesday, 20th August, 2014, the main entrance to the council secretariat was under lock but the chairman allegedly came in with some suspected thugs and forced the gate opened.
At the time of this report, the secretariat of the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA has been thrown into confusion as some suspected thugs loyal to the council chairman have virtually taken over the secretariat.
Efforts to speak with the Chairman proved abortive as his telephone line was not going.
