Reports reaching thegazellenews.com have indicated an indiscriminate arrest of students of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that the arrest is being spearheaded by former Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, who is also from Ilesa.
Obada was alleged to be leading uniformed men to arrest the students, mainly sympathisers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Imala area of the town, very close to the institution campus.
More than 30 of the students’ leaders were said to have been arrested and whisked away by the soldiers. The names of some of the students’ leaders include: Awowole Samuel, President, National Association of Nigerian Students, College of Ilesha chapter; Dada Oluseyi, Ogunmode Suraju and Odutola Olaniyi among others.
Besides, Obada was also alleged to be going round the town arresting APC supporters ahead of the elections.
No reason has been given for the ongoing clampown on the APC supporters in the town by the PDP chieftain.
Reacting to the latest incident, the APC condemned what it described as “the unwarranted provocation of its members across the state”.
The party also called on security agencies not to show partisanship to any of the parties as it is being demonstrated now where security men now do the bidding of the PDP.
