Information reaching thegazellenews.com at about 9.45am on Wednesday, 6th August, 2014, indicated that military men and police officers have sealed off the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, apparently to prevent a rally organised by Labour movement in the state.
This medium learnt that the organised Labour in Osun State has officially applied for and got approval for the use of the park for its rally.
But on the morning of Wednesday, 6th August, 2014, a detachment of soldiers and police officers stormed the park informing its General Manager that they were acting on “orders from above” to prevent any activities from taking place there “for now”.
According to the soldiers: “the order is for now”.
It is unclear why that order was given, but competent source informedthegazellenews.com that the Federal Government machinery is trying to prevent as much as possible demonstration of support for Gov Rauf Aregbesola.
“We understand that the Federal Government was frightened by the magnitude of the mega rally of the APC which is the biggest scene so far in the history of campaign in the state.
Citizens are therefore advised not to put themselves in arms way by confronting the soldiers.
“They should move on and reassemble somewhere else.
“The people of the State of Osun will not submit to oppression and intimidation,” a statement by the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC’s) Director of Publicity, Strategy and Research, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, declared.
