A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amb. Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, during weekend warned people against spreading lies about President Muhammadu Buhari’s health, in the interest of the country
Mumuni was reacting to comments attributed to two prominent politicians, Femi Fani Kayode and Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.
The duo criticised the recent visit of acting President Yemi Osinbajo’s visit to Buhari in London as fake, demanding for photo or video evidence.
The former diplomat said Nigerians have no reason to doubt their acting President, who is a senior pastor and reputable Presbyterian.
“The Osinbajo that I know will have no reasons to isolate the truth by toying with Nigerians minds. Even the first Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has spoken that the old man is recuperating. These are the two closest and confidants to Mr President,’’ he said.
The renowned security expert said going by the President’s age, there should not be any unnecessary hard shoulders.
“The tendency of being sick cannot be ruled out. Rather than wasting their time on fruitless talks and unguarded utterances capable of destabilising the peace of this country, I urge them to join other Nigerians in praying for the president’s speedy recovery.’’
Mumuni, who is also the Aare Jagunmade 1 of Lagos, urged Nigerians not to panic, saying that what transited during the late President Umar Yar’Adua health situations would not be repeated.
He said it was obvious that some people got away with deceit and fraudulent acts then, by grossly deceiving Nigerians or taking the country for a ride with series of lies.
“But this is a different case. I have confidence in the acting president and there is no justification to doubt him or Hajiya Buhari,’’ the former gubernatorial candidate under the defunct CPC-Lagos said.
He, however, noted that if the presidency was playing politics with the President’s health, they should be warned and called to order to avert disgrace.
“If we are being deceived, that’s another ball game entirely, which is worse than economic sabotage. “Nobody will play with Nigerians mind and go scot free this time around.
“They should be called to order to avert disgrace or a big disaster that may befall them if Nigerians should detect any wrong doing or foul play.’’
