Once again, it seems there is no end in sight to the destructive and nefarious activities of the Community Policing Youth Vanguard that was set up by the Area ‘E’ Commander, ACP Dan Okoro. The group was seen attacking a member of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Environmental Task Force, Mr. Jide Arogundade on Wednesday, 23rd April, 2014.
According to the Head of the Local Government Task Force, Comrade Segun Adekoye, while narrating his member’s ordeal to journalists, he revealed that “One of my men, Mr. Jide Arogundade, was performing his lawful duty, by clamping down a vehicle which violated environmental laws by parking on the green zone at 512 Road, Festac Town, when the Vice Chairman of the Community Policing Youth Vanguard, Mr. Fatai Onifade aka Apashe, and his gang came to attack him, tearing his uniform and carting away his working tool. This is really uncalled for”.
It is instructive to state that the Local Government Environmental Task Force is a creation of the Local government Bye-law to sanitize the environment alongside the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Environmental Department health officials.
The Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, when contacted on phone stated that the local government would not give in to hoodlums, reiterating his stand that the Community Policing Youth Vanguard set up by Area E Commander, ACP Dan Okoro, must be banned before hell is let loose in the local government and also that a letter has been sent to the DPO of Festac Police station to investigate the matter while he copied the Governor of Lagos State, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Inspector General of Police, the AIG Zone 2, Area E commander, ACP Dan Okoro, the state Commissioner of Police Lagos State and the Director of the State Security Service Lagos State (DSS).
It will be recalled that the same group also damaged and vandalized local government projects’ sign posts during the March 2014 environmental sanitation, as well as, disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward elections.
