Rainstorm destroyed property worth millions of Naira in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State over the weekend following an early morning downpour.
Thegazellenews.com’s correspondent, who monitored the situation, reported that property affected included: public and private buildings, churches, schools and shops, amongst others.
The rain which started at about 9.30am was accompanied with stormy wind that disrupted movement of persons and vehicles.
It is noteworthy to state that the roof of some buildings were also damaged at Mile 2 Low Cost Housing Estate, Lagos, while buildings of some schools were also affected including Community Nursery and Primary School, Mile 2, and Amuwo Odofin Primary School, also in Mile 2.
The Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, while speaking with journalists on the matter after an assessment tour of affected areas noted that the “local government will write to the state government intimating it of the damages the rain storm had caused the people of this local government’’.
Comrade Adewale also appealed to residents to take care of their environment. “While I share the pain with you, I also want to appeal to everyone to take care of their environment. It is wrong for you to block the drainage, trade along the bicycle and walk ways, thereby degrading the environment. We all must come together and keep our environment clean and safe,” he noted.
