The Chairman Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Comrade Ayodele Adewale; ex-Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) National Secretary, Mr Shola Odumosu; President, Amuwo-Odofin Youth Council, Mr Ilesanmi Femi; Iyaloja General of Amuwo-Odofin Local government, Mrs O.S Adebayo and other residents of the local government have appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Dikko Abubakar, to transfer the Area Commander of Area E Police Command, Dan Okoro, out of the area.
The appeal which came at a press conference addressed by Comrade Adewale on Thursday, 24th July, 2014 at the council secretariat at Festac town, also called on the state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; and the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, to ensure the transfer of Okoro out of the area.
According to Adewale, the call became a necessity because Okoro and a group he established, Community Policing Youths Vanguard have been terrorizing residents of the area especially the council boss and staff of the local government.
Speaking at the media briefing, Adewale stated that the local government has been under siege by ACP Dan Okoro and his Policing Youth Vanguard led by one Emmanuel Uba a.k.a Onwa.
“Let me tell you all without fear of contradiction, we want to place on record that the local government is under siege. We have been having a headlong battle with the Area E Commander, Festac Town, ACP Dan Okoro, over this criminal and notorious group that he sets up,” said the LG boss.
He added that ”I also which to state that the local government has evidence within its disposal to prove the high handedness and abuse of office by ACP Dan Okoro.
”We cannot forget in a hurry the violation of traffic laws on Sunday 13th October, 2013, where the Area E Commander was seen directing a truck carrying container to drive through one way into Festac Town, destroying our barricade at the Festac link bridge”.
To butress his claim, the Amuwo Odofin LG boss showed the video of the various attrocities committed by Dan Okoro to journalists present at the occasion.
In one of the videos shown to the journalists, a member of the Policing Youths Vanguard named Niyi told the visitation panel set up by the Lagos State House of Assembly to look into the matter that the group was set by Okoro.
Ayodele therefore called on the general public to watch all the videos of ACP Dan Okoro and his terrorism group on YouTube.
Speaking later, ex-NUJ National Secretary, Shola Odumosu, who is President, Festac Town Resident Association, said Festac Town has been so peaceful over the years but when ACP Dan Okoro came they started having sleepless night from hoodlums.
”For over 12 Area Commanders we have had in Festac Town this is the first person residents of the LG have been calling for his removal,” Odumosu said.
