A banker, Malik Luke, was on Thursday, 12th February, 2015, remanded in custody by a Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja, over alleged N760,000 fraud. Luke, 27, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The accused who lives at 1,000 Estate Kuje, Abuja, works with Hasal Micro Finance Bank, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, as a marketer.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Osuje Basil of Hasal Micro Finance Bank reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Tuesday, 3rd February, 2015.
He said that the accused collected N760, 000 from different customers to lodge it in their accounts, but fraudulently converted the money to his personal use.
Ibrahim said that during police investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and a sum of N90, 000 was recovered from him.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, refused to grant him bail, but ordered that the accused be remanded in police custody, to enable the police carry out more investigation.
