For two consecutive days, the number of reported cases of coronavirus continues to go down in Nigeria as a country and the epicentre of the pandemic in the country, Lagos, The Gazelle News.com can report.
The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported on its verified twitter handle that 146 new cases of #COVID19 were reported in nationwide on Tuesday, 12 May, 2020.
This was 96 cases fewer than what was reported on Monday, 11 May, 2020 when 242 cases were reported.
The Monday figure also six fewer cases than the 248 cases reported nationwide on Sunday, 10 May, 2020.
The number reported in Lagos on Tuesday, 12 May, 2020 was 57, 31 cases fewer than the 88 cases reported on Monday, 11 May, 2020.
Some health experts who spoke with The Gazelle News.com stated that while this might be encouraging, the country should not be rejoicing over this trend for now.
“Two major factors maybe responsible for this: the fact that many people are no more going for the test and the fact that it is not up to 14 days after the lockdown was eased. Let’s wait till next week and compare the number of cases, then we can really assess the real situation. But for now, let’s keep our fingers crossed,” one of our sources who works in one general hospital in the state said.
However, The Gazelle News.com reports further that the total number of confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria now is 4,787.
Of this number, Lagos continues to be the epicentre with 1990 cases, followed by Kano with 693 cases, FCT has 360 cases, Katsina 208 cases, Bauchi 190 and Borno 188 cases making the top six states having the highest number of reported cases in the country.
