Former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande has been described as a pace setter, peacemaker and selfless leader, reports The Gazelle News.com.
These encomiums were showered on the elder statesman by the Minister of Youth and sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare while felicitating with him on his 82nd birthday.
The former Governor of Osun State clocks 82, today, Saturday, 16 January, 2021.
According to a statement from the Minister’s Media Office, “I join millions of Nigerians family, friends and political associates in celebrating a true statesman and astute politician, Chief Bisi Akande on the occasion of his 82nd birthday.
“Chief Akande is not just a politician, but also a pace setter, peacemaker and organiser of men and resources. He is humility personified and someone who puts service to others ahead of self. Your role in midwiving democracy in our country is quite laudable. As you mark another birthday, I pray that you will live to enjoy the fruits of your labour in good health and sound mind. Happy birthday sir”.
Chief Akande was born on 16th January, 1939 at Ila Orangun, Osun State.
He was appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Oyo State during the reign of the late Chief Bola Ige and later the Deputy Governor for three months when the late Chief Sunday Micheal Afolabi resigned and defected to the then National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
He was Governor of Osun State from 1999- 2003 under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). He went on to become the National Chairman of the Action Congress (APC) and later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before leading the party to a merger that led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
