From Timothy Agbor/OSOGBO
Notwithstanding numerous security and political challenges battling this country, Nigerians have been charged not to give up hope on the country but take solace in the resurrection of Jesus Christ believing that the country shall overcome its challenges.
The Cathedral Administrator of Saint Benedict Catholic Cathedral, Catholic Mission Road, Osogbo, capital of Osun State, southwest Nigeria, Reverend Father Paul Awowole on Sunday, 20th April, 2014 gave this charge during the Easter Mass.
Father Awowole during the homily said no matter how hard things are in this country, Nigerians especially Christians should not lose hope adding that the country would soon triumph over its challenges.
The priest who had earlier read from Gospel according to John, Chapter 20, Verse 1 to 9 averred: “no matter how hard things are in this country, we have hope in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ that its going to be well again in this nation.
“Our God is alive, He is not dead and so He is at work. The ressurection of Christ gives us hope in our Country and even in our families. Jesus Christ fasted for forty days and cleansed the sick and brought joy to the sorrowful, so also He will look into the problems facing us in this country and solve them”.
While pleading with those that find joy in killing and maiming innocent citizens of this country to repent and have a change of attitude, the priest pointed out that “the good will always triumph over evil no matter what.”
According to him, “there is so much evil happening in this country especially in the northern part but we must not lose hope. We are hopeful people and no matter how long it would take, good will overcome evil. We don’t know who is next”.
While condemning the 14/4/14 Nyanya bomb blast by the Boko Haram sect, Father Awowole urged Christians not to embark on retaliation move but should pray to God to touch the hearts of the perpetrators.
His words: “No two wrongs can make a right. Evil plus evil will be evil square. We should not retaliate in this country, all we need to do is keep praying that God should arrest the souls of those behind these criminal acts. No matter how churches that have been burnt, no matter how many people they have killed, we shall conquer.
“We do not need to worry, as Easter people, we are happy people because we share in the resurrection of Christ. Some people want to force an ideology over everyone and it may not work, we have to be prayerful.
“God is not going to be looking at us like this. Our country is not yet a disaster zone, there are some areas that are turbulent but generally speaking, its not so bad as most people outside the country are putting it.
“If the Spirit of Christ is in politicians, they will know when it’s right for them to be in political offices and they would not embark on do-or-die approach to politics. Whatever sadness we have in the world, when we remember Jesus, we are victorious”.
