DSS Arrests, Docks Undergraduate For Allegedly Cloning Osun Deputy Gov’s Facebook Account To Defraud People

A final year student of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo state, Inomeda Sunday Owoaiye has been dragged to an Osogbo Magistrate court by Department of State Services for allegedly cloning a facebook account of the deputy Governor of Osun state, Mrs Titi Laoye Tomori to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The principal legal officer of DSS in Osogbo, Onochie Ekwom informed the court that Owoaiye, a part two Higher National Diploma student attempted to obtain money by trick from unsuspecting victims.

According to the DSS prosecutor, the accused person used the details of the deputy governor’s facebook account to organise a seminar in collaboration with an international body-United Nations (UN)- and Laoye Tomori in order to obtain money.

The charge sheet obtained by our correspondent read in part: “that you Inomda Sunday Owaiye cloned the facebook account of the Deputy Governor of Osun state, Titi Laoye Tomori and used same to extort money from unsuspecting victims using GTbank account number: 0211576746.”

The prosecution told the court that the accused person had committed the offence of impersonation which is contrary to Section 484 of the criminal code cap 34, laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002.

Ekwom further argued that the accused person contravened Sections 419 and 422 of the Criminal code, cap 34, volume II, laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002.

Owoaiye pleaded not guilty to the three count-charge pressed against him by the DSS. There was no lawyer to represent him in court.

The presiding judge, Magistrate Olusola Aluko ruled that the accused person should furnish the court with a formal application for his bail.

Aluko ordered Owoaiye to be remanded in Ilesa prison custody in the interim. He adjourned the case till May 10, 2016 for mention.
