Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, has advised Nigerians to love and tolerate one another, saying Nigeria is in need of redemption considering the spate of bombing and killings of innocent citizens going on in some parts of the country.
Prof. Utuama, stated this on Sunday, 20th April, 2014, during the Easter celebration, Baptism, Dedication/Thanksgiving Service of his grandson, Preye Jeremy Smooth, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Otu – Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, south south, Nigeria.
The state Deputy Governor, who noted that Easter is a period of celebration of life as Jesus Christ who rose from the dead, has brought to the world a big and strong assurance that whosoever believes in him, at the end of time, will have everlasting life.
He prayed that the resurrection of Jesus Christ will also bring to a halt the ongoing bombing and killings of innocent people in the country.
He called on Nigerians to be tolerant and love to each other. According to him; “I think on a day like this, we should follow the foot steps of our lord Jesus Christ, we should show love to one another, we should give a helping hand, and we should redeem one another from our difficulties”.
While expressing appreciation to God for His goodness upon the introduction of a another grandson into the Utuama and smooth family, he noted that it was by the divine will of God that the Baptism, Dedication/Thanksgiving of his grandson is been celebrated in his home town, Otu-Jeremi, adding that the process that culminated into the marriage of his daughter to the Smooth family started from the same church in Otu-Jeremi.
Prof. Utuama while congratulating the parents of Preye Jeremy Smooth, Engr. and Barr. Edwin Smooth for the introduction of a new baby into their home, asserted that he will continue to celebrate the goodness of God to the Smooth and Utuama’s family.
The parish priest, St. Michael Catholic Church, DSC, Ovwian, Rev. Fr. Henry Udi, in his homily, asserted that Easter celebration marks a new beginning in the lives of all true Christians and admonished all to continue to believe in God in order to enjoy his grace.
He noted that the lord Jesus Christ is the light that has brought grace to us deliver the children of God from the shackles of darkness. According to him, “it an error and disgrace for the children of God to walk away from the kingdom of light and into the kingdom of darkness”, adding that those whose lives are in not in Jesus Christ will always remain in crisis.
While noting that by the reason for easter, Jesus Christ came to conquer death and bring restoration into our live, he urge Christians not to lose faith but to believe strongly in the resurrection power of Jesus Christ in his victory over death his restoration of life to us.
Highpoint of the occasion was the Baptism, Dedication/Thanksgiving of little Preye Jeremy Smooth at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Otu-Jeremi, to the admiration of dignitaries present whom include: Dr. Mrs Nelly Utuama, wife of the state Deputy Governor; Chief and Mrs Tunde Smooth; Dr Chris Oghenechovwen, state Commissioner for Water Resources; Barr. Charles Ajuya, state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General; Barr. Neworld Safugha, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon; and Hon. Lucky Awheriomre, Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House; among others.
