From Timothy Agbor, Osogbo
As Christians all over the globe celebrate the Easter festival, Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has urged Christians to use the period to pray for peace and stability in the country.
Governor Aregbesola who gave this advice through a statement issued by the Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon stated the urgent need for Christians especially those in Nigeria to salvage this country through intense and constant prayers and supplications.
According to the Governor, “as Christians in the country join their counterparts all over the world to celebrate Easter, it has become imperative for them to pray for the continued existence of Nigeria, especially in the face of the multiform security challenges facing it.”
Aregbesola held that at this point of Easter, Nigeria deserves to be prayed for so that it can overcome the security challenge which is almost making Nigerians feel total unsafe any longer not only in the Northern part where insurgency is prevalent but also in other parts where one form of criminality or the other holds sway.
Meanwhile, Christians in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun state, southwest Nigeria joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate Easter.
When our correspondent went round the town on Sunday, 20th April, 2014, in other to capture the mood of the season, Christians were seen in the early hours in their respective gorgeous wears as they find their ways to their churches to mark the risen of Christ from the dead.
A visit to the Catholic Cathedral Church in Osogbo revealed worshippers in a happy mood chorusing ‘alleluia’ which signals Christ victory over death. The worshippers expressed joy for the season as they danced and exchanged compliments.
