The Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has been named the most ethically responsible government agency in the Land of Honour State for the year 2013/2014 by the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation (CESVO).
It was identified after a survey of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) carried out by CESVO between February and March this year.
Besides identifying SUBEB for its record, the organization also presented the Board with Certificate of Credence as well as inducting the SUBEB Chairperson and state Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, into the CESVO’s Hall of Fame as the 2013/2014 Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience.
At the presentation ceremony held at the SUBEB Conference Hall, Okesa, Ado-Ekiti, the Executive Director of CESVO, Mr. Salih Musa Yakubu described the organization as an independent and international non-governmental organization (NGO) of professionals and highly-skilled volunteers craving the eradication of corruption in the society.
He said: “Part of the centre’s programme is exposing corrupt practices and reward ethically responsible political leaders and institutions via a well-articulated ‘secret independent assessment of projects’ without prio knowledge of the subject of assessment and his MDAs to avoid inducement or interference whatsoever”.
Salih disclosed that the assessment of the MDAs in Ekiti State and some other states in the country in year 2013/2014 revealed the Ekiti State SUBEB as been very transparent in the conduct of its intra and inter governmental transactions in contrast to same government agencies in other states who failed to follow the ethical principles of transparency and accountability.
The CESVO chief explained that the enlistment of Prof. Adelabu into the organization’s Hall of Fame was to reward her diligence and genuine commitment to its duty as the SUBEB Chairperson and to poverty reduction in the state.
In her remarks, Prof. Adelabu, who was represented by Commissioner lI in the Board, Mrs. Bunmi Adelugba, commended the organisation for its commitment to the ant-corruption crusade in the conduct of government business through its various programmes.
She also thanked CESVO for letting the public know that Ekiti SUBEB, and by extension, Ekiti State government has been conducting its affairs with all sense of transparency and accountability in tune with all ethical principles.
Prof Adelabu said it was really gratifying to note that such a credible and internationally-recognized NGO has found Ekiti SUBEB worthy of Certificate of Credence and the Board Chairperson inducted into the Center’s Hall of Fame as “Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience 2013/2014.
Noting that the award did not come on a platter of gold, she enumerated some of the projects executed by the board to include the establishment of Early Child Care Development Education Centre in each of the three senatorial districts in the state the constitution of the Independent Project Monitoring committee which ensured that projects executed by the board are carried out to specification.
The Deputy Governor dedicated the award to Governor Kayode Fayemi who she described as an apostle of transparency and accountability, noting that the governor who has actually put in place the Eight-Point Agenda to ensure an all- round development of the state.
According to Prof Adelabu, the recognition and award will spur the Board to do more and remain steadfast in the delivery of the government’s education policy at the elementary and basic levels.
