Officers of Ogun State Police Command on Friday, 21st March, 2014 killed four suspected armed robbers terrorizing the state in recent time.
The robbers, who came to Ogun state from neighbouring Lagos state in a Toyota Yaris car were killed at Iyana Iyesi area of Sango Otta in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
The robbers were said to be heading to a Bureau de Change office at the area after snatching the Toyota Yaris car used by them from the owner in Lagos.
Thegazellenews.com gathered that acting on information, men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the command had positioned themselves at the area and immediately the robbers saw them they opened fire on them but the police superior firepower overwhelmed them and four of them were gunned down.
Three died before getting to the Police Command headquarters in Abeokuta while the remaining one later gave up the ghost.
Addressing journalists on the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikemefuna Okoye said the feat was another example of the relevance of community policing.
“The command got wind of the bandits and laid ambush for them,” he said, adding that the robbers on sighting police team opened fire, but the superior firework of the police rendered them useless.
“Four of them were gun down, while three others escaped with bullets wounds,” he said.
He noted that the police were still after the runaway bandits giving an assurance that they would soon be apprehended.
Items recovered from members of the gang include two locally made guns and ammunitions.
