The recent announcement by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that the party has zoned the governorship ticket to the Lagos East Senatorial District, has thrown the race open among aspirants in the zone.
Hitherto, it has been rumoured that the ticket has been zoned to Epe Local Government in the senatorial district but Tinubu’s announcement meant aspirants from other local governments in the zone: Ikorodu, Kosofe, Somolu and Ibeju Lekki will have the opportunity to contest for the party’s ticket.
In view of this, thegazellenews.com can authoritatively revealed that member of the House of Representatives for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, will soon make the governorship ambition she has been nursing underground public.
The three term member of the House and Chairman of the House Committee on Disapora has been holding meetings with stakeholders in the Federal Constituency intimating them of her desire to contest for the seat.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that the lawmaker has been appealing to the gender sentiment telling whoever cares to listen that the country is not only ripe for the election of the first female Governor but also that the state should take the enviable position of being the first state to produce the first democratically elected female governor in the history of the country.
This medium also learnt that the fact Ikorodu Federal Constituency has never produced any democratically elected governor in the history of state is one of the campaign tools being used by the lawmaker to sway sentiment to her side.
Recently, the lawmaker organised an empowerment programme where some prominent Ikorodu indigenes urged her to run for the governorship seat of the state.
Not only that, a stakeholders’ meeting held at the palace of the traditional ruler of the town, the Ayangburen of Ikorodun, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi, on Monday, 14th April, 2014, called on the leadership of the party to give the governroship ticket to the local government.
Checks by thegazellenews.com indicated that the event was sponsored by the female lawmaker.
