But for the vigilance of the eagle-eyed personnel put on ground by the Kwara State Government, some Covid-19 patients would have escaped from the Isolation Centre in Ilorin, The Gazelle News.com reports.
This medium gathered exclusively that, the patients, nine in number are all from the north west geo-political zone of the country.
They were some of those who imported the virus into the state via inter-state travelling.
The Gazelle News.com learnt that they hatched their plans of escaping at the Isolation Centre and tried to execute it early Friday, 15 May, 2020.
According to reports exclusively gathered by this medium, they planned to escape by scaling the fence of the Isolation centre.
Our correspondent learnt that they have succeeded in scaling the fence but landed in the hands of security personnel who were already on ground and blocked their escape route.
They were promptly arrested and returned to the isolation centre.
When interrogated by the security personnel, they said they wanted to go and home and observe the coming sallah with their family members.
Some residents of Ilorin were full of praises for the security personnel for their dedication and commitment to duty. They equally commended the state for putting in place practicable measures at containing and curtailing the spread of the virus.
“These are people who brought Covid-19 into Kwara and still want to escape to endanger the lives of other people. I want to commend the security personnel for their vigilance and dedication to duty. But for them, these people could have escaped and continue to spread the virus in the state,” Aminu Isaa, a resident of Gere Alimi, told our correspondent.
Another resident of Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Adisa Onile-Ere, said that the proactive response of the Abdul Rahman Abdul Razaq administration is worthy of commendation.
The Gazelle News.com can also report that despite the fact that the escape attempt was thwarted, the state government has increased security at the Isolation Centre.
