There are mounting pressures on the former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, to run for the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by his followers, associates and friends.
This was sequel to the alleged decision of the leadership of the party to zone the position to Ogun State and Aremo Osoba seen as the elder statesman and rallying point of the party in the state. In fact, Osoba, two time Governor of the state, is one of the national leaders of the party.
However, the erstwhile Governor of Ogun State has been reported to have declined the offer deciding instead to support another person for the position from the state.
Thegazellenews.com investigation revealed that Osoba has instead pushed forward Yemi Sanusi, chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state for the position.
The arguement of the former Governor was that he was not getting younger hence cannot cope with the rigours of being the national chairman of a mega party like the APC.
However, his supporters are not relenting as they are putting more pressure on him, cajoling and coercing him to accept and run for the office which they believed will be a great honour for the party.
“We want him to run because he has the charisma and he is the only rallying point for the party in the state. Apart, he is also a national leader of the party, he has the needed connection and he commands respect of party members. We believe that if he does not run, the party leadership may take away the slot from us and we don’t want to lose it,” a member of the party in the state told thegazellenews.com.
