Barely 24 hours after the mega rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its governorship candidate in the 9th August, 2014 governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, thegazellenews.com has been informed of the plan of the party to scare away women voters on election day with gunshots.
A female student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree who was privy to a discussion some PDP leaders had in Osogbo with her aunt hours after the rally revealed the plot to this medium.
According to the lady, some PDP leaders in their area in Osogbo came to her aunt’s residence to threaten her. “They told my aunt that they were just returning from a close door meeting with some PDP leaders including President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Omisore, Buruji Kashamu among others. They told my aunt that the PDP leaders assured that they will supply all necessary materials needed to rig and win the election.
“They also said that they will be supplied with guns with which they will scare away voters, especially women on election day,” the female student told our correspondent.
According to the student, the PDP leaders also threatened arrest and possible extermination of some key aides of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. “Since you insisted that it is Aregbesola you want again, we will pursue away from voting with guns,” the leaders allegedly said.
However, in a show of defiance, the lady’s aunt was reported to have pointedly told the PDP leaders that no amount of threat and intimidation can stop her and women in the state from exercising their civic rights. “I and other women in this state will vote and we will not succumb to your threat and intimidation,” the aunt said.
Another woman present at the exchange of words told the PDP leaders that they will vote for Aregbesola because they have not forgot the death of Chief Bola Ige and the role Omisore allegedly played in the murder.
”We cannot forget the death of Chief Bola Ige anytime we see prisoner Omisore’s posters on the street.
“Had it been he remembers his antecedent, he wouldn’t have said he wanted to contest for any election in this country not to talk of Osun State,” the lady said.
